I love to eat. Its an islander trait I’ve had since I was just a little boy playing basketball on the streets of Olongapo City. Now the average family spends $5800 dollars a year on groceries. I actually think thats on the low side since all you have to do is go down to Basha’s or Fry’s Supermarket on a Saturday afternoon and see a family of 5 hauling huge carts of food.
Now wouldn’t it be nice to get a little bit or reward for doing all that spending….in cash maybe? That’s where American Express preferred comes in. I personally use this card specifically for groceries. I also use this card for gas. So lets talk about why Amex Preferred is such an awesome card.
- 6% Percent cash back on groceries: I dare you to find a card with a better cash back offer than this one. You won’t. I looked and trust me this is the best.
- $150 Reward for new customers: All you have to do is spend 1000 bucks within a 3 month period and $150 richer.
- 3% on gas: Not the best but not too shabby either. I use it if my main gas card is not with me.
Keep in mind that you need very good to excellent credit to get approved with this card and the annual fee of $95 dollars may turn some people off. Don’t let it. This card is so awesome, that in the last 3 years I made at least $2000 without even trying. The annual fee actually gets paid off within that first 3 months of having the card if you spend at least $1000.
As with any credit card, you must pay on time IN FULL every time. Getting cash back and all the rewards won’t do squat if you’re getting robbed by interest rates and paying the minimum. Don’t be that person. Be responsible, timely, disciplined and I promise you that this Amex card can make you some cash back in no time.
